Now at the WOW (Wonderful Original Works) Gallery

As my bead embroidery continues to evolve, so are the opportunities to purchase pieces that speak to you. My work is now at the WOW Gallery in downtown Santa Fe, NM. The WOW Gallery is located at 135 West Palace Ave. You can also follow the WOW Gallery on Instagram.

I’m really excited about this opportunity! Thank you for visiting my website and your support.

The 2016 Spring Catalog is here!

My new spring catalog is now available! The 2016 Spring Catalog has evolved to include new designs and even a "Sale" section. One year ago, I didn't think I had enough inventory to create a catalog much less be able to offer discounted items. However, 2016 is off to a great start. Thank you to all the customer support during the last year. My goal is to have two catalogs this year and to open an online shop. Until that happens, the best way to contact me is via e-mail at heffron.susan@gmail.com. Thanks again and enjoy this new spring catalog!

Welcome to 2016!

This year is off to a speedy start! I regret to say that I'm writing about the new year in March, not January. Better late than never!! I've been busy traveling and beading. The highlight for me was watching my piece, Clouds at Sunset, sell at the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico's Sweetheart Silent Auction. The piece had multiple bidders and was successful in raising money to help support patients who struggle financially while going through cancer treatments. It is a wonderful cause. Thanks to all my FaceBook friends who voted to select a piece for the donation.

I'm working on new pieces....Turquoise with Gem Silica, Mexican Fire Opals, and more Cerrillos Turquoise will be debuting soon on the website. Check back for updates! And...if you see anything that you can't live without, drop me an e-mail and I can send prices. Finally, I'm hoping to also get a new spring catalog pulled together. I'm building a mailing list and am happy to add you for the next e-catalog release. Bead On!!

Summer in the Mountains

I can't believe this year is flying by so quickly. Right now, it is time to enjoy summer days in my New Mexico mountains. The days are warm and nights are cool, so perfect temps for spending a lot of time outside. This could be why I haven't added a blog post in quite awhile. That and the fact that I have been working on new projects!! I've added new beaded pieces to the gallery pages. I've also been on two trips to gather new stones. A new find for my stash of stones is Teepee Canyon agate from Custer, SD. The color combinations are striking and I hope to do a piece using these stones soon!
Also, check out the New Designs page in the gallery. I've been playing with some new cuff bracelet designs as well as using metal frames to set beads in crystal clay. So, I have finished some projects despite the lovely weather that lures me outside on a regular basis. Please send me an e-mail if you see something you like. Wishing you all the best summer!

Looking Forward in 2015

2015 is off to a great start! I've had time to work on new projects....some that I've been wanting to design for quite some time. While living in Australia, I used to walk my dog on the beach over my lunch hour. I always kept my eye open for shells that might provide good raw material for my jewelry. Now, I'm finally getting the shells put together in new projects.

Another interesting challenge is also on the horizon. A disaster at the local flea market resulted in a beautifully glazed pot disintegrating into shards. This is a new opportunity to see if I can take the pot shards and turn them into beautiful jewelry projects. Who knows how this will turn out, but I can't wait to dig in and see what I can do with the recycled material.

Thanks again for checking in on the blog! Cheers, Susan

Photo Shoot Learning Curve

One of the things I really like about living in New Mexico is the light. It never ceases to amaze me and I try not to take it for granted. Colors change throughout the day and often surprise me. Luckily, our home has an abundant number of sky lights that really come in handy when trying to photograph jewelry in natural light without a flash. However, I'm learning more about when this does and doesn't work. The winter months with the sun lower in the sky changes the best time of day to use the light. Also, if there is cloud cover or snow on the sky lights, the photo shoot has to wait until the light changes. Just as not every day has the right light, so my camera setting experiments are not always right as well. I'm continuing to learn and hope to update photos with "new and improved" versions as I get better at the photo shoots. I'm always open to new suggestions and tips for improving the jewelry photos.
I'm also trying to plot a day of silver art clay work soon.....stayed tuned for the results!

Happy Holidays!

Hope that everyone's holiday season is off to a great start! We are just back from a couple of trips and I am looking forward to some creative bead time at home over the upcoming weeks. During our trip to Australia, I discovered new bead shops in Fremantle and Margaret River in Western Australia. The trip caused me to do some research on Gaspeite, a gemstone that was discovered as a by-product from the Australian mining industry. A bright, apple green with matrix, this stone has some similar properties to turquoise. I'm just now learning more about it. I picked up a few fun beads and findings as well that I hope make into some new projects to post on the website very soon. Actually, I have to get all of the trip pictures downloaded from my camera before I can do a new jewelry shoot!! Never a shortage of things to do.
Cheers and happy beading!

Fall Inspirations

The temps are cooling down, aspen leaves are turning gold, and the flowers are putting out some final blooms as fall is in full swing here in Santa Fe. It is a really pretty time of year here. Along with the change of colors is my seasonal switch from flip flops to boots! The change in footwear and fall colors are inspiring me to use oranges and browns in my recent beading designs. Orange corals and brown pen shell are combined to set off the beads in several projects. I've updated the "Latest and Greatest" column to highlight the new projects. Thanks for checking back with the site!
